Accident statistics

The Norwegian Railway Authority keeps the official accident statistics for railways in Norway. These statistics, amongst other things, are supplied to Statistics Norway.

These pages contain the comprehensive statistics that will be updated annually (the annual report and Scandinavian statistics) and more detailed statistics that will be updated quarterly, based on both near-accidents and accidents.

The Norwegian Railway Authority also keeps statistics based on reported serious railway incidents and railway incidents (near-accidents). These statistics are used as input for the Inspectorate's work. These statistics provide the Authority with a picture of the types of deviations from normal operation that occur, which are significant for railway safety and are reported during railway operation. The reports of near-accidents and deviations from normal operation are one of the means by which the Authority can become aware of dangerous conditions before an accident happens.
